Richie, you can pick it up from Amazon.co.uk for about €300 and it saves the file in .Mov format according to the website: http://www.contour-hd.co.uk/contourhd-1080p.html

A fellow in the lab just picked up the waterproof hd version of the gopro for €250 from some US website, I can ask him for the details if anyone's interested.

I have a go pro hd you can try out. We can get them in the shop there 300 for the hd one. To be honest the hd is a bit of a pain the files are just to shaggin big to work with on my laptop i also end up reducing the quality to upload them. As for setting it up its fairly handy and it has a pretty wide angle lense so once pointed in the right direction your fine. The battery life is good and with a big card i use a 16gig one you can get plenty of action filmed without running out of space. Give me shout if you want to try it out.

let me see if they give me one first..I was advised by a certain someone that they would !!
If they don't i'll get one off you..when you say too big..what size are you talking about...I tend to load big files as well as I'm filming 30 minutes of a race or a spin..?
it was the video Gav did of Cummins in The Glen that got me thinking , now that I remember !

Well at the moment im trying to sort out some of my stuff from my trip to whistler. Ive an 18 min video pieced together from one run and its 2gig after ive reduced the quality and im having trouble uploading it. When i play it straight from the camera to my telly its deadly. But before i start editing them i have to reduce the quality or else my laptop goes into meltdown.

The quality on the standard go pro seems good enough but it doesn't have the lithium battery and uses AAA batteries which is a bit of a pain in the ass

The ContourHD file format is .mov (Apple Quicktime)... so you cannot use Windows Movie Maker to edit them...

The ContourHD records HD video in 30fps or SD video in 60fps..

I primarily use it in SD mode normally because at that high frame rate it records high speed action a whole lot better.. and in slow motion it looks absolutely amazing..!!

HD files are always going to be large.. uploading them is a pain in the gicker.. and the hosting site will almost always compress the files so they will never look as good on the web as they do played directly thorough your TV or the likes..

If you save a file in a different format than what it was recorded then more than likely you will loose some of the quality of the original..

HD as far as I'm concerned is a con / joke / ploy to get gullible slack jawed eejits to spend money on something that just isn't necessary.. but sure if it helps them spout sh!te to their friends in the school yard on Monday morning then leave them to it.. every marketing man's wet dream and all that..
