Hi there,

I am thinking about buying a new bike and was just wondering about ladies specific bikes..is that what I should be focusing on? (Apologies if this is a really stupid question but I have never ridden a ladies bike)

Thanks

Only ladies specific bike Iv seen on the mountain is Lukes XTC but Im sure Al, James or Paul in the Bike Rack, Cabinteely can point you in the right direction.

Ladies 'specific' bikes are usually smaller in height and shorter in reach than men's bikes. It all depends on your size and personal preferences though..

I'm not qualified to recommend a particular ladies bike but what I would say to anyone buying a new bike is to try out as many different makes, models & sizes as you can.. Don't fall for the marketing or sales pitch when it comes to 'ladies' bikes.. In your case try some of the smaller mens bikes too, you never know it might fit like a glove..

Here's a peach of a 'ladies' specific bike to start off with..

Completely agree with Mac there, girls sizes do seem to work for a lot or girls but if you have long arms, long legs, long body or any combination of the above you'll probably find a better fit on a small / medium man's bike with the right stem and saddle position.

Try and have a go on all the girls bikes in the club and a most of the lads bikes.

What Gerry said is 100% dead on.
if you are a small lady, a ladies specific bike is of a benefit, however the taller variety ( like yourself)don't need to worry about it. Unless you are Luke..well spotted Oz !!

Hi Jenny,

I'm in the process of selling my Ladies Specific Specialized bike. If you want you can come and try it out. i'm quite short so I found the ladies bike much better than lads bike,

Hey Jen,

I have fecking 4 bikes at this stages and only one of them appeares to be ladies specific but that was more accidentially than on purpose.

I think they really make sense if you are a "weird" size. Like very tiny or short arms or so, but if you are average size you easily get away with men's bikes.

So don't focus too much on finding a ladies cause u are quite tall anyway & should be grant on most bikes I guess. Just try them as many as possible see what feels right.

The only thing I would really recommend is as ladies specific saddle. I have a specialized BG for Ladies... they are really comfy, even on very long biking days...

And missus....get gloves *haha* :-)
